The car headlight bulbs made of LEDs have significant advantages such as long life, high brightness and long projection distance, and have become the preferred light source to replace halogen lamps and xenon lamps in a large area. Headlights have also become a trend in the next generation of automotive headlights.

Although LEDs are a new type of lighting source, in terms of the auto parts and aftermarket markets, because the original lamp body system of the car headlight must be used, the design uses the dimensions and fixing methods of the LEDs car headlight bulb. The interface, power supply and control, shape of the light-emitting area, brightness and luminous flux should be as consistent as possible with halogen bulbs and xenon bulbs.

When replacing halogen and xenon bulbs, no major changes to the lamp body are required. As a new alternative light source, car headlights using LEDs must bring a new experience to users, not only in terms of service life and reliability, but also significantly improved without increasing or even reducing glare. Increase ground illumination and projection distance.

As a mature light source, LEDs have been widely used in lighting, backlighting, display and other fields. Strong light LEDs are characterized by small size, high current and high reliability, and are mainly used in directional projection lighting, such as automotive headlights, motorcycles Lamps, pico projectors, stage lighting, portable glare lighting, ultra-long-distance searchlights, etc. At present, the strong light LED packages used in car headlights and motorcycle lights include COBs (abbreviation of chip on board), CSP (abbreviation of chip scale package)-COBs, 2016-LEDs or CSP-LEDs, high-power ceramics Base LEDs and LED modules for automotive headlights.

Due to the limitation of the packaging form, the chips in the high-power ceramic-based LEDs can only be arranged in a square shape. Obviously, when high-power ceramic-based LEDs automotive headlight bulbs are installed in the whole lamp, many of the light emitted from outside the linear area becomes harmful stray light and glare, which not only cannot improve the effective illuminance of the road surface, but also It will destroy the light shape and brightness distribution of the projected beam. In addition, high-power ceramic-based LEDs are affected by the size of the substrate, and the volume is large. The mainstream products are 7070, 5050 and 3535. In order to increase the luminous flux, if two high-power ceramic-based LEDs are closely arranged on the narrow car headlight circuit board, there will be dark areas, and the luminous flux will be wasted more than the gain.

Although high-power ceramic-based LEDs have insurmountable shortcomings when used in automotive headlights, they are still favored by the market due to their relatively mature packaging and high luminous efficiency. At present, most of the LED car headlight bulbs use high-power ceramic-based LEDs. The main domestic and foreign suppliers include CREE in the United States, LG in South Korea, Weitian in Taiwan, and Jingrui in Jiangxi. With the advent of linear high-light LED light sources with better cost performance and user experience, such as 2016-LEDs and CSP-COBs described below, the application of high-power ceramic-based LEDs in automotive headlights may be gradually replaced.

It can be seen from the above simple analysis that in the auto parts and aftermarket markets, the replacement of traditional halogen bulbs and xenon bulbs is still the mainstay. Automotive headlight bulbs made of strong light LEDs should be as consistent as possible with halogen bulbs and xenon bulbs in terms of overall dimensions, fixing methods and interfaces, power supply and control, light-emitting area shape, brightness and luminous flux. Although the manufacturing cost of traditional COBs is low, the reliability and light shape are relatively poor, and they have been eliminated by the mainstream market.

Due to insurmountable shortcomings and high cost, the application of high-power ceramic-based LEDs in automotive headlights will gradually be replaced by linear bright LEDs with better cost-effectiveness and user experience. The linear strong LEDs light source can be 2016-LEDs arranged in a linear arrangement on the circuit board, or 5050 and 7070 CSP-COBs. Five-sided CSP-LEDs are not suitable for making highly reliable automotive headlights. LED modules for automotive headlights are mainly used in the pre-installation market and the auto parts and after-installation markets for automotive headlights designed with special LED modules for automotive headlights.
